General Missionary Baptist Salem Missionary Baptist Church, Lilburn, Georgia, is seeking a full-time Minister of Music.
Established in 1834, Salem is a 190-year-old historically black congregation that takes great pride in not only its history but, the overall history of the black church. We are a highly spirited church that prides itself in maintaining a relationship with the history of music in the Baptist Church. We steeped in tradition, but are not stuck in tradition.
The ideal candidate has an appreciation for the history and heritage of black church music, and is also adept at leading in areas of biblically sound new and contemporary renderings. We are seeking an individual to add to our full-time ministry team, who will coordinate all of the musical needs of the ministry. (rehearsals, funerals, special service etc.)
The Minister of Music reports directly to the Senior Pastor and must be willing to follow his lead and work in harmony with him. This position also serves under the management of the Office Administrator.
Duties include:
• Serving the congregation (under the leadership of the Pastor) as organist, (pianist) and accompanist
• Selecting music for worship in cooperation with the pastor
• Directing an established band which currently includes a guitarist, bass guitarist, drummer and
saxophonist. In the event of a vacancy, the Minister of Music would have the strongest voice regarding a
replacement.
• Directing multiple age appropriate choirs – currently: Senior choir (60 years and over), Youth and young
adult choir, Children’s choir (ages 3-12), Men’s Choir, Praise Team, and Mass Choir
• Working as an active member of church staff
• Recruiting and leading choir members and musicians from the congregation
• Coordinating the music program
Applicant requirements:
• Must be a born-again believer in Jesus Christ
• Must be able to read and play from music and ideally by ear.
• Experienced in leading a church music ministry (five or more years preferred)
• Must consider the position as ministry, and not just a job
• Must be flexible and energetic in leading various age groups
Job type: Full time position, salaried (hours based on in-house and community activities). Compensation: (based on ability and experience) min. $40,000.00 per year
