Founded in 1870 in Augusta, Georgia, The General Missionary Baptist Convention of Georgia ("GMBC") is the largest organization of African Americans in the state of Georgia. The original purpose of the Convention was to bring Black Baptists together for Christian Education and fellowship throughout the state. For over 126 years, GMBC has provided educational and enrichment programs for thousands of Georgia Baptists.
The mission of the Convention has expanded extensively throughout the years. In addition to its commitment to Christian Education and Service, GMBC owns and operates several facilities which provide support to its membership of over 800 churches, representing over 550,000 African American Baptists in Georgia.
GMBC is affiliated with the National Baptist Convention, USA, Inc. which represents over 8.6 million Black Baptist throughout the world.
GMBC Baptist Headquarters located at 155 Joseph E. Lowery Blvd., N.W. in Atlanta, Georgia, serves as the official office for the Parent Body of the General Missionary Baptist Convention of Georgia, Inc. and is the central source of support and convention services.
